(Backup) June 3: Day Off in Esperance Seeing Friends Again
Wow, I slept until 6:45 this morning! It was actually light in my tent (okay, it had been light in my tent all night due to the fact that, once again, I was given a site by a lamppost). It was also much warmer than it’s been the last several days. Before even having breakfast, I decided to try to FaceTime with Grayson and family. It worked, and this was probably the best signal since getting to Australia! It was awesome to see everybody, and My Sweet Baboo was excited to see me too! I can’t wait to see them when I get home!

Grain silos, I think.

I got some warm socks and fingerless possum/Marino gloves

It had just bonged noon.

After FaceTiming, I fixed my brekkie, then walked to the IGA Express (the only grocery open today) to resupply. I was thinking it might be pretty limited since it was an Express, but they had a decent selection. Since I’m back in “Caravan Parks with Camp Kitchens Land”, I got some crumpets to put in the toaster. Hopefully, it won’t be like last time I got bread only to have camp kitchens with no toasters. I ate a couple of pastries while I was walking back.
Fueled up, I hopped on Tilmann and headed into town on the bike path along the water.

There was a Sunday Market going on at the Info Center/Historical area. Some booths were like garage sale items, others were crafts, and others were food. There were some permanent shops in the historical buildings like this one.

There was a food truck with soft serve ice cream. I got a chocolate dipped cone. It was delicious! After having a look at everything, I hopped back on Tilmann to check out the rest of the CBD. Lo and behold, there is a Subway here! I haven’t had an opportunity to check off a Western Australia Subway yet, and since this day seems to be all about eating, I decided it was the perfect opportunity to do so. Full up, I got back on Tilmann and rode to the end of the bike path.

I turned around, and rode to the other end of the bike path at Castletown Beach.

Back at the park, I was sitting in my chair when a gentleman walked by and turned to me and said, “Colleen?” Well, it was Rob who I met on the Nullarbor with his wife Lynn! I had seen their bus across the way, but didn’t think it could possibly be them. It was! Turns out, Rob has had some health issues and been in hospital here for a few days. They are flying to Perth, then to Brisbane, and having their RV trucked back to Brisbane. The doctors couldn’t figure out what the problem is, but it’s not safe for Rob to drive. They don’t know how long it will be before their rig gets to Brisbane, so they are cleaning out all the food. They gave me some jam, soup, noodles, and tuna. They would have given me more, but I don’t have room to carry it.
They mentioned some weather coming in for tomorrow. I looked at the forecast. It seems okay. Kind of strong winds, but out of the north. Slight chance of rain, but good temps. I think I’ll be okay.
